ELVIR MURIQI SCORES 3RD
ROUND TKO ON ESPN2
A total of 6 knockdowns called and 2 knockdowns not called in the first
3 rounds is an indication that this was a brawl. ELVIR MURIQI fighting
Sammy Ahmad kept everyone on their feet. Muriqi went down twice in the
first round. It looked bad for Muriqi. At no point did Muriqi give up.
He came back to put Ahmad on the canvas. In the second round, Muriqi hurt
Ahmad, but the bell rang to give him a minute rest. In the third round,
Muriqi came out throwing. He was able to connect with uppercuts and rights.
He put Ahmad on the canvas again. Then Muriqi unleashed a barrage of punches.
This time the referee waved his hands and called the fight over at 2:57
of Round 3. Muriqi had won by TKO.

PAST USKBA AMATEUR CHAMPION
ELVIR MURIQI BOXES TONIGHT ON ESPN2
He
dominated the USKBA's Amateur Kickboxing Light Heavyweight Division
when the USKBA was in its infancy. He left kickboxing after earning
the USKBA Amateur Light Heavyweight Championship Title. His name
is ELVIR MURIQI (see photo
at left...l to r; Elvir Muriqi, RingGirl, Jonas Nunez Jr, Anthony Cruz,
Louis Ruiz, RingGirl Melody and Brayner Martinez). He's
now 23 years old and dominating boxing's Light Heavyweight Division. He
is trained by Teddy Atlas. Tonight, he brings a 23-1 boxing record
to New Rock City in New Rochelle NY to face off against Sammy Ahmad (16-2-3)
in a bout that will be televised on ESPN2. It is the Featured Bout
on a card headlined by Aaron Davis vs Ross Thompson. Muriqi's only
loss was a controversial disqualification March 23, 2000. Since then, he
has gone 10-0.
Muriqi is from Kosova and thus nicknamed "The Kosova Kid", a
nickname he has kept since his kickboxing days. When he kickboxed, he was
trained by USKBA World Champion LOUIS RUIZ. Now they spar together,
each developing more skills for the ring. For both, it is working out well.
Muriqi, under the tutelage of Teddy Atlas, is on his way to being
a boxing champion. Tonight will be another stepping stone toward his goal.
Watch him on ESPN2 tonight and we'll keep you posted on the results. |

USKBA CHAMPIONS HIGHLIGHT
EVENT IN ATLANTIC CITY
Three USKBA Champions made their way onto "A NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS"
held on Friday, July 19, 2002 at the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic
City. The event was arranged by 21st Century Warriors in cooperation
with the Tropicana, sanctioned by ISKA
and the NJ State Athletic Control Board and is available for viewing on
Pay-Per-View.
Out of the three USKBA Champions, unfortunately, two had to fight
each other. In what many people in attendance called 'the fight of the
evening', USKBA and KICK World Champion LOUIS "Bad Boy" RUIZ
met USKBA US Champion and ISKA World Champion TONY "TNT" VENTURA
in a scheduled 10 Round non-title bout. It was tough choice to decide before
the fight who would win. From the first round, it was clear that neither
fighter wanted to leave the decision in the hands of the judges. Ruiz and
Ventura traded power punches during the early rounds. Ventura floored Ruiz
and Ruiz was issued a standing eight count. Ruiz returned the favor and
floored Ventura. Ventura was able to get to his feet and resume fighting.
At one point, Ventura threw a spinning backfist that landed on Ruiz's nose
and knocked him to the canvas. The referee declared that Ventura's glove
did not cause the knockdown and that his elbow did. According to Ventura,
the referee took 2 points away from him for the foul. In Round 6, Ruiz
dropped Ventura to the canvas with a devastating punch that seemed to have
landed on his temple. Ventura went down and the referee immediately called
an end to the bout giving Ruiz the victory by way of TKO. Both fighters
showed class after the fight when they discussed the fight and their strategies
with each other. Win, lose or draw, they will both always be champions
of the sport. The third USKBA Champion to fight on the card was
USKBA
International Champion KADIR. He was fighting Olando "The Warrior"
Rivera for Rivera's ISKA World Championship Title in a scheduled
12 Round
bout. Kadir is known to accept any challenge. This was to be one of his
biggest challenges to date. During the early rounds, Kadir was able to
use his long legs to keep Rivera at bay and land kicks to his head. Rivera
answered Kadir's attacks with attacks of his own Rivera possesses exceptional
punching and kicking abilities. As the rounds went on, the crowd cheered
every time Kadir and Rivera mixed it up at close range. Kadir has one of
the best chins and absorbed Rivera's uppercuts without going down. Kadir
landed some good ones of his own. The 12th and final round had arrived
with neither fighter tasting the canvas. Kadir seemed to pour it on in
11th and 12th rounds. But Rivera had been shaken at points during the fight
and never laid back. He kept busy and pressed Kadir. Kadir stood in there
toe to toe with one of the best kickboxers in the world for 12 Rounds.
Rivera won the decision and Kadir won acclaim from many people in the audience
who had never seen him fight. Congratulations Louis Ruiz, Tony Ventura
and Kadir, USKBA Champions...we're proud of you!

NYPD SAYS 'NYET' TO CLUB
RASPUTIN AND "INTERNATIONAL FIGHT NIGHT 6"
USKBA Promoter Gene Fabrikant (Gene Productions) was ready,
all the fighters were ready, all the officials were ready, Club
Rasputin was ready, the eight newspapers covering the event were ready
and the crowd was ready for "INTERNATIONAL FIGHT NIGHT 6" in Brooklyn
NY last night. However, the NYPD, on authority from the NYS Liquor Authority,
was not ready. The promoter of the event was told that NYPD was enforcing
an Alcohol and Beverage Commission law that says that "combative sports"
cannot be held in an establishment that has a Liquor License. When it was
explained to the NYPD that the event contained martial arts and not "combative
sports", the response was that "...we will still close the show down,
and the club down, under a 'disorderly premises' violation."
While everybody is talking with legal council, the show was stopped
and a determination is being made if the event will take place this Sunday,
July 21th at another location in Brooklyn NY. Mikhail Avetisyan
is in from Russia, Jim Cruce and Lane Collyer are in from
the South, other fighters came in from all over. Logistics will determine
if the event can go on Sunday. For more information, or to get the determination
on the event, call Gene at 718-743-1770. |

MIKHAIL AVETISYAN
RETURNS TO NEW YORK TO FIGHT FOR USKBA WORLD TITLE ON "INTERNATIONAL FIGHT
NIGHT 6"
USKBA
Promoter Gene Fabrikant (Gene Productions) is ready for his
sixth "INTERNATIONAL FIGHT NIGHT" event in Brooklyn NY. This time,
he will be holding his event at the famous Rasputin restaurant in
Brooklyn NY on Thursday, July 18, 2002. This event promises to be bigger
and better than his previous events. He has brought world famous grappler
MIKHAIL
AVETISYAN in from Russia and JIM CRUCE in from the South to
meet each other for the USKBA Grappling Heavyweight World Championship
Title. Avetisyan thrilled New Yorkers last time he fought in America
when he slammed his opponent to the canvas and ended the bout in outstanding
fashion. Avetisyan has beaten the best. Included in his experience is a
controversial draw decision with Igor Vovchanchin. Most people who
saw the bout, claim Avetisyan was the winner. Cruce comes into the fight
with a 14 win, 0 loss, 2 draw record having appeared in NHB events throughout
the South. Both fighters are looking to walk away with the title. Also
scheduled to appear on the card; "LIGHTNING" LANE COLLYER, VSEVELOD
BERKOLAYKO, RENAT MYRZABEKOV, PETER KALJEVIC, IRINA, OLEG SAVITSKY
and many more. For tickets and more information, call 718-743-1770.

KENNY
KEYES GETS DECISION AND TITLE AND JASON ARRUDA AND PETER KALJEVIC SCORE
KO VICTORIES ON "SUMMER BASH"
Two fighters weighing in at 228 lbs. That is what they weighed. Not
each, but together. Two small but agile athletes competing for the USKBA
Amateur FC Bantamweight World Championship Title. KENNY KEYES
versus JOSE BATRES. This bout was scheduled for five rounds. At
the opening bell, Batres seemed content to spend time sizing up Keyes.
Keyes seemed tentative but was able to control the round and deliver the
more effective blows. This pace kept up for the next two rounds earning
Keyes the first three rounds on all judges scorecards.
Batres came out in the fourth round ready to do battle. The kicks were
flying and the punches were landing as both fighters stopped the tentativeness
and did battle toe to toe. Batres won the round on two of the three judges'
scorecards. The fifth round looked like a duplicate of the fourth round
with both fighters giving their all to win the title. The bell sounded
the end of the fifth round and the end of the fight. Now it was left to
the judges. Judge Gwzodz scored the fight 48-47, Judge Zychowicz
scored the fight 49-46 and Judge Sturgeon scored the fight 49-46
in favor of the winner by unanimous decision... KENNY KEYES.
Keyes/Batres
was one of the Featured Bouts on USKBA Promoter Tony Ventura's (TNT
Kickboxing) "SUMMER BASH" held on July 13, 2002 at Club Jokers
in New Bedford MA. The crowd came to see bouts featuring some of TNT Kickboxing's
best fighters. Although Ventura didn't fight on this card, the audience
gave him a standing ovation as he was announced into the ring as the ISKA
World Champion. In addition to the bouts, one of TNT's fighters announced
his retirement...undefeated KERRY WINTERSON (see
photo at left).
In a non-title pro five round bout, GARY "The Bone" BONENFANT
and PETER "F-16" KALJEVIC met in the Battle of USKBA Champions.
This bout had the promise of being one of the battles of the year. Bonenfant
came into the fight with a reputation of being one of the hardest
hitters around. Kaljevic came into the fight with over 60 fights of experience
and as one of the busiest fighters in the sport today. The bell rang for
the opening round and both fighters touched
gloves and prepared to do battle. Bonenfant clearly landed the best kicks
and looked to be in control of the fight. Kaljevic looked content to use
the first round as developing his strategy for the next four rounds. Bonenfant
won the round on all judges' scorecards. The next round saw Bonenfant pressing
the fight and Kaljevic landing some good kicks and punches of his own.
About half way into the fight, Bonenfant ducked down as Kaljevic was lifting
his leg. Kaljevic's shin caught Bonenfant right above his right eye and
opened a severe 3 inch gash. Referee Steve Rita stopped the time
and brought Bonenfant into his corner for his cutman and doctor to examine.
Bonenfant's trainer, the well respected Peter Murphy, decided the cut was
too severe for Bonenfant to continue. At :53 of Round 2, Kaljevic was
awarded the decision by TKO due to Bonenfant not continuing.
In another Featured Bout, JASON ARRUDA and BILL BEARCE
squared off against each other in a scheduled five round match. Arruda
was coming off a KO victory and Bearce was testing the waters by making
his pro debut. Arruda stood about 10 inches taller than Bearce, but Bearce
had a reputation for chopping down taller fighters. Although Bearce was
able to get close to Arruda, Arruda landed the more devastating blows.
Bearce went down about :45 into the fight but managed to get up before
the count of ten. Arruda was relentless as he knocked Bearce to the canvas
before the end of the first round. This time, Referee Steve Rita counted
to ten as Bearce remained on one knee. The winner by KO at 1:55 of Round
1... JASON ARRUDA.
In other bouts; RICHIE FELICIANO defeated JEFF BAASE by unanimous
decision and RANDY OLIVEIRA defeated CHUCK JEWELL by unanimous decision.

USKBA TRAVEL TO EVENTS IN UKRAINE RESCHEDULED TO OCTOBER 2002
Due to the upcoming 2002 Ultimate Elimination tournament, the
short time to make travel arrangements, the unavailability of airline tickets
for the dates of travel, and many more items, the announced events in the
Ukraine will be rescheduled to October 2002. At that time, it is anticipated
that the USKBA will bring a team of five or more sportfighters who
will make up USKBA TEAM USA. They will compete against TEAM UKRAINE
in at least two events in two different cities in the Ukraine.
USKBA
Full Contact Light Heavyweight World Champion RANDALL
"The Perfessor" POGUE was to have met the Ukraine's YURI BARASHYAN
in a rematch of their controversial bout in the Ukraine in October 1999
(see
photo at left; Pogue connects with a left to Barashyan's head).
Barashyan has proven himself to be one of the best Super Middleweight/Light
Heavyweight kickboxers in the sport. Pogue is at the top of the sport.
This bout in the Ukraine was to have been a tune-up for the upcoming RANDY
POGUE vs TOM KIMBER bout scheduled for September 21, 2002 at The Wonderland
Ballroom in Revere MA. Pogue and Kimber met about six years ago in one
of the best USKBA Sanctioned bouts ever. People are talking about
that bout today. In two months, they'll meet again, each having six years
more experience.

STEVEN BERKOLAYKO AND EDELMIRO
MONTERO WIN USKBA INTERNATIONAL TITLES ON "KICKBOXING KINGS"
The
last time they met, STEVEN BERKOLAYKO and LAMONT FORIN fought
a battle that ended in a draw. This time, they met in a scheduled five
round bout as the Main Event on "KICKBOXING KINGS" for the USKBA
Muay Thai Super Middleweight International Championship Title. Berkolayko
came out strong and seemed to land the more effective punches and leg kicks.
All three judges gave the round to Berkolayko. Forin came out strong in
the second round and won the round on all three judges' scorecards. The
third round saw both fighters mix it up in and out of the clinch. Berkolayko
was awarded
the round by all three judges. Berkolayko was ahead going into the fourth
round. Forin seemed to press the fight in the fourth round, but Berkolayko
seemed to be busier and more effective. Two judges gave the round to Berkolayko.
If this fight were to go to a decision, Berkolayko was now sufficiently
ahead. And he needed all of that as Forin came on strong in the last round
to take the round on all three judges' scorecards. Judge Bottone
scored the fight 48-47 Berkolayko, Judge Yanossi scored the fight
48-47 Forin and Judge Hewski scored the fight 48-47 for the winner
by split decision ...Steven Berkolayko.
USKBA Promoter Vladimir Borodine (Borodin's Gym) organized
"KICKBOXING
KINGS" that finally found a home at The Millennium Theater in Brooklyn
NY on June 30, 2002. The event was moved from Club Heaven to The Millennium
Theater the day before the event. Fighters didn't seem to mind where they
fought as long as they fought. And fight they did. The Main Event of Berkolayko-Forin
was the icing on the cake. The cake being all the bouts that preceded the
Main Event.
In another USKBA Title bout, EDELMIRO MONTERO and AKMAL ZAKIROV
squared off for the USKBA
Full Contact Super Lightweight International Championship Title. This
bout was scheduled for five rounds. Both fighters seemed evenly matched.
However. Montero was the sharper of the two. The kicks were flying in this
bout as both fighters were true kickboxers with splendid kicking technique.
Montero came out as the aggressor and landed kicks to the body of Zakirov.
Montero was able to
keep Zakirov at bay with his long legs and long punches. Zakirov never
tired and never retreated. But neither did Montero. This was the same throughout
the five rounds. At the end of five rounds, the judges were called on to
render a decision. Judge Bottone scored the fight 50-45, Judge
Yanossi scored the fight 50-45 and Judge Hewski scored the fight
49-46 for the winner by unanimous decision ...Edelmiro Montero.
In other action

TIM
LANE DECISIONS TOMMY RODRIGUEZ TO RETAIN USKBA WORLD TITLE ON "VENGEANCE
AT THE VANDERBILT 14"
In the Main Event, USKBA Full Contact Super Lightweight World Champion
TIM "Bring the Pain" LANE successfully defended his title against
TOMMY
"The Warrior" RODRIGUEZ in a ten round bout that had the capacity crowd
on its feet cheering every second. This was Lane's first defense of his
title since winning it from Marco Sies earlier this year. Lane came
into this fight as the champion. Rodriguez came into this fight as a formidable
opponent.
The
first round belonged to Lane on all three judges scorecards as Lane attempted
to take control of the fight. Rodriguez came back to take the second round
on two of the three judges' scorecards. Lane was proficient in his kicking
while Rodriguez used his hands to score. In the third round, a welt developed
over Rodriguez' right eye. During rounds, the doctor checked his eye and
stated that Rodriguez could continue, but it would be for just one more
round. One more round had come and gone. While Lane was relentless in his
aggressiveness, Rodriguez proved that he could still fight and possibly
turn the fight around. The scoring, up to the sixth round, had Lane ahead
by one point on two judges' scorecards
and Rodriguez ahead by one point on the third judge's scorecards. This
fight would not be stopped. At least not by the doctor. The action continued
into the tenth and final round. Rodriguez' corner did a tremendous job
on his eye to keep him in the fight. Lane's corner did a tremendous job
on a game plan and sticking to it. When the bell sounded the end of the
bout, everyone was silent for a few moments feeling the urge to have the
fight go on to additional rounds until one fighter was down and out. But
everyone was content in being present to witness one of the truly great
kickboxing bouts. At the end of ten rounds, the judges were called on to
render a decision. Lane was declared the winner by split decision scores
of 96-94, 94-96 and 96-94. Lane retains his USKBA World Championship
Title.
On Friday, June 28th, USKBA Promoters World Champion Louis Neglia
and Ray Longo presented the next event in their "VENGEANCE AT THE
VANDERBILT" series before a standing room only crowd at The Vanderbilt
in Plainview NY. "VENGEANCE AT THE VANDERBILT 14" offered a card
filled with Full Contact Kickboxing, Exhibition Grappling and Muay Thai
bouts.
On
the last USKBA Promoter World Champion Louis Neglia event in New
York City (February 2002), STEVEN BERKOLAYKO fought for the USKBA
Muay Thai Super Middleweight NYS Championship Title. The bout ended
in a technical draw due to point deductions.
Berkolayko was not awarded the title at that time. This time, Phil Nurse
agreed to have his fighter, EDWARD DE NOBREGA, go in against Berkolayko
in a three round exhibition. Berkolayko was dominant throughout the fight.
Nobrega stood in there with Berkolayko but was unable to mount a continued
attack. Effectiveness was on Berkolayko's side. The crowd was treated to
a three round bout that showed technique and power. After the bout, Berkolayko
was awarded the USKBA Muay Thai Super Middleweight NYS Championship
Title belt. Berkolayko is trained by Vladimir Borodine.
In
the Featured Bout, USKBA Full Contact Super Welterweight US Champion
MICHAEL CORLEONE faced off against CHRIS 'The Cannon" WAGNER
in a scheduled five round non-title bout. As indicated by the judges' scores,
the first two rounds were even with one judge giving it to Corleone, one
judge giving it to Wagner and the third judge calling it even. The third
and fifth rounds were scored unanimously for Wagner with the fourth round
going to Wagner on two of the three judges' scorecards. Neither fighter
went down in the bout nor did either fighter seem in jeopardy of a knockout.
After five rounds, the decision went to the judges. Judges Almonte
and Corritone scored the fight 48-47 and Judge Barroso scored
the fight 50-45 for Wagner by unanimous decision.
In
a professional debut Muay Thai bout, SHENNEN MACEO (Team Tiger Schulmann)
faced LAWRENCE ALI DAVIS (Maisonet's Muay Thai Camp) in a scheduled
four round match. Davis weighed in heavy and was given time to work off
the weight. At second weigh-in, Davis was still over. After some discussions,
both corners agreed that the fight would go on. Since this bout was not
a title bout, USKBA Rules allow for a fighter to fight up one weight division.
The bout went on and looked from the opening bell. Both fighters exchanged
punches and kicks until Maceo caught Davis with techniques that put Davis
on the canvas. Davis remained seated on the canvas while referee Kuhn
Fred Fitzgerald counted to ten. Davis was stunned. Maceo was given
the KO win at :58 into the first round.
