USKBA CROWNS FIRST OHIO STATE CHAMPIONS AT "WILLARD WAR 4"

Two new USKBA Amateur Full Contact Kickboxing Champions were crowned on May 19, 2001 at USKBA Promoter Jim Cofer(see photo at left of Jim and his family including Jim's daughter and kickboxer and boxer Kelli Cofer) and his Golden Lotus Martial Arts Academy's "WILLARD WAR 4" held at the Attica Fairgrounds in Attica Ohio. The event showcased local kickboxing talent and featured special Grudge Matches between teachers and students and employers and employees.

The two title bouts' announced weight divisions were changed to reflect the actual weights of the fighters. Fighting for the USKBA Amateur Full Contact Kickboxing Super Heavyweight Ohio State Championship Title were JASON MULLINS and LANCE HEDGES. This bout was hard fought and both fighters gave their all. After four rounds, the judges awarded the fight and the title to the new USKBA Amateur Full Contact Kickboxing Super Heavyweight Ohio State Champion Jason Mullins (see photo at right)

Fighting for the USKBA Amateur Full Contact Kickboxing Light Heavyweight Ohio State Championship Title were ROY KILGORE and CEJAY BLEVINS. This bout was labeled "the fight of the evening" by the hundreds of enthusiastic spectators in attendance. Two fighters with extraordinary punching and kicking abilities. Every second of this four round title bout was filled with action as both fighters fought for the upper hand. At the end of the bout, the judges had the pressure of declaring a winner. The rules at this event had the half point scoring system in effect and a total of the points of the three judges would determine the winner. The scoring was 117 to 116.5 for the winner and new USKBA Amateur Full Contact Kickboxing Light Heavyweight Ohio State Championship Title Cejay Blevins (see photo at left).

In other kickboxing action:
MARISA HRICOVSKY def LISA RUTHERFORD by 90-83.

SHAKIR WINS USKBA GRAPPLING TITLE IN HARD FOUGHT MATCH AT "EXTREME GRAPPLING 2" IN MASSACHUSETTS

NURI SHAKIR (Dragon's Lair) used the full 10 minute time limit to decision JEREMY LIBISZWESKI (Jeremy's School of Defense) to win the USKBA Grappling Middleweight New England Championship Title. With both grapplers trying to get the upper hand, most of the action was on the canvas. In the air, Shakir was able to keep close to Libiszweski to nullify his great kicking ability. When the final bell rang, the judge's decisions saw one judge giving the fight to Libiszweski and two judge's giving the fight to Shakir.

The hundreds in attendance, at Club Jokers in New Bedford MA, thrilled to the competitive matches at USKBA Promoter Tony "TNT" Ventura's "EXTREME GRAPPLING 2". All matches were scheduled for 10 minutes.

In the Full Contact Stick Fighting match, MATT DONAHUE defeated MAT SANTOS by submission. Grappler JOE POMFRET's opponent canceled out prior to the show. Not wanting to cancel Pomfret's appearance, TONY "TNT" VENTURA stepped into the ring to grapple with Pomfret. Forty eight seconds into the match, the referee stopped the contest after Pomfret landed a kick to the left side of Ventura's head.

In other grappling action:
LYLE CABRAL def JACK WELBY by unanimous decision.

Rising Kickboxing/San Shou sportfighter MARVIN PERRY won a seven round majority decision over RUBEN "Legs of Stone" COLON to take Colon's USKBA Super Cruiserweight Northeast Championship Title. Perry made good use of his kicking ability to keep Colon away. Throughout the entire fight, Perry attempted an assortment of kicks to Colon's head and body. Colon was able to block some, but Perry was able to land. Colon kept looking for that one knockout blow. It didn't come. The judges scored the fight in favor of Perry by scores of 67-65, 65-65, 66-64.

This was the Main Event at USKBA Promoters Bruce and Lucinda Marshall and their Trilogy/Black Belt Productions' "THE BOSTON MASSACRE 11 - MUAY THAI MADNESS" held at The Wonderland Dog Track in Revere MA on Friday, May 4, 2001. This bout was scheduled for 3 two minute rounds. All fans threw their support behind both these fighters. From the opening bell, both Senauer and Kadi thrilled the audience with leg kicks, knees to the body and other fighting techniques. At the end of 3 rounds, the judges scored it 30-27, 29-28, 27-30 for the winner, by split decision, Merieme Kadi.

A second Featured Bout for the vacant USKBA Amateur Muay Thai Light Heavyweight Eastcoast Championship Title was held between WILLIAM NEWCOMB and MAURICIO VALE. This bout was scheduled for 4 two minute rounds. Newcomb came out the more effective fighter and won the first round on all three judges' scorecards. In the second round, Vale's right eye began to close. Referee Fred Fitzgerald kept a close watch on Vale's eye and called time in the fight to have the doctor check Vale's eye. The doctor declared that Vale should not continue and the TKO decision went to Newcomb at 1:12 of the second round.
