It took JASON DUNTON (Dragon's Lair) 58 seconds to win
the USKBA Amateur Grappling Middleweight Tri-State Championship Title
by applying a guillotine choke to his opponent FRANK LATINA, causing
Latina to tap out. This was the Main Event at USKBA Promoters Bruce

2001 at the Wonderland Dog Track in Revere MA. All bouts were 7 minutes

EVENT REVISITED: HORENSTEIN
AND TAGIHZADEH WIN USKBA SAN SHOU TITLES AT "NY SHOWDOWN 4"
(excerpted from an article by David Ross)...USKBA
Promoter NY Kung Fu and Kickboxing's "NEW YORK SHOWDOWN 4",
held on Saturday, April 14, 2001 was the next logical step for the series.
Finally stepping up to a major auditorium and introducing the city to top
quality professional San Shou matches in addition to its usual roster of
the nation's best amateurs, "NEW YORK SHOWDOWN 4" attracted more
spectators than any of its previous shows (even though it did not sell
out the auditorium as it had hoped) and proved that its success was no
fluke. The NEW YORK SHOWDOWN series is here to stay.
The continuing and increasing alliance of the international styles of
kickboxing was evident by the support the event received from well known
Muay Thai trainer and promoter Vladimir Borodin. Borodin's Gym helped open
the show with a Muay Thai exhibition bout by two wonderful children. Russell
and Vladimir showed the audience that they had as much heart and technique
as any adult. Future champions in the making!
The professional matches were what the crowd had been waiting for and
no one was disappointed. The Main Event for the USKBA San Shou Super
Heavyweight North American
Championship Title featured MOTI "The Hammer" HORENSTEIN. Horenstein
is a world Muay Thai champion, a former Shidokan champion and two time
UFC veteran known for hard leg kicks and a generally aggressive fighting
style. Moti faced CEDRIC HALL, a last minute replacement but a formidable
opponent none the less. Cedric was a former golden gloves national boxing
champion and had an undefeated record in kickboxing. However, Hall apparently
did not have an answer to the leg kicks that Horenstein possessed and these
set up a number of nice hand combinations. Horenstein won by TKO at 1:58
of RD 2.
The Semi Main Event pitted YOUSEF TAGIHZADEH, of Iran, against
DAN
GARRETT, of Pasadena MD, for the USKBA San Shou Cruiserweight North
American Championship Title. Yousef was a multi time Iranian national
San Shou champion who had recently made his pro debut in Germany with a
stunning first round KO. Dan had lost his pro debut against Cung Le in
San Jose, CA but it was known that he played for keeps and fought hard.
Dan lived up to expectations, fighting hard even while clearly losing to
a stronger Yousef. With a cut under his right eye and bruises on his ribs
and legs, referee Pat Sullivan was keeping a close eye on Dan. After Yousef
landed two unanswered round kicks to Dan's head (right and left), Pat stepped
in and stopped the bout at 1:08 of RD 5. Still, Dan impressed many and
expect him to fight again on a NEW YORK SHOWDOWN card.
In other amateur action:
San Shou
EJOVI NUWERE def EDSON JEAN LOUIS by unanimous decision.
Full Contact Kickboxing
JEFF COMAN and DIMITRI SURGANOV fought an exhibition.
San Shou
JUSTIN CAPIELLO def JOHN GILLIAM by TKO at 1:50 of Round 1.
San Shou
NARDU DEBRA def XAVIOR ROSS by unanimous decision.
San Shou
ROB McFAYDEN and JEAN MARIE PETITE fought to a draw.
Muay Thai
VITALY MANCHUR def HAN HUNG by unanimous decision.
San Shou
RICHARD ACOSTA def ROB SCHULTZ by unanimous decision.
Full Contact Kickboxing
MICHELLE YOUN def CHRISSY YANDOLLI by unanimous decision.
San Shou
RAY NEVES def DAVID WILTSHIRE by unanimous decision.

style. Rounds five and six were Free-Style Fighting.
Kadri's first bout ended in 30 seconds with an intense hook punch to
the body that crumbled his opponent to the mat. His second bout ended one
minute into the fourth round after an intense fight where the action swayed
back and forth. Kadri ended the bout after landing a flurry of strikes
to the head that toppled his opponent. In the semi finals, Kadri's opponent
could not answer the bell for the fifth round. In the finals, the match
ended 45 seconds into the second round when Kadri chopped his adversary
to the mat with a barrage of debilitating roundhouse leg strikes.

MARSHALL
UPSETS BUGLIONE...ARRUDA DECISIONS HEWSKI...TOP NAME KICKBOXERS HEAT UP
"RING OF FIRE 7"
Just when you thought the action couldn't get better, up comes USKBA
Full Contact Welterweight World Champion "Diesel" DAVE BUGLIONE
and up and coming ERIK MARSHALL (see
photo at left...Buglione in red trunks, Marshall in black trunks)
fighting a non-title five round bout. This was the Main Event of a star
packed kickboxing event entitled "RING OF FIRE 7" hosted by USKBA
Promoters Tom and John Bottone and their Ring of Fire Productions
held at the Huntington Town House in Huntington Station NY on June 10,
2001.
Marshall traveled from Florida to New York to fight Buglione. Buglione,
a humble and honored champion, was fighting in his backyard. Marshall was
looking for a chance at a title shot. Buglione
was looking to stay busy. Two freight trains on the same track...running
toward each other head on. At the point they meet, that's the point that
this fight begins. But the fight didn't stop at the initial clash. The
trains pulled back and came at each other again...and again...and again.
Two aggressive fighters with exceptional techniques. In the third round,
Buglione suffered a bad cut by his eye. The always observant referee Fred
Coritone called the medics over to Buglione's corner at the end of
the round. Having to make a tough decision, Buglione's trainer and manager,
Bob Mauro, decided not to let Buglione continue. The winner by TKO at 2:00
of round 3....Marshall. Erik Marshall is trained by Mike and Vickie
Hollobaugh of Bradenton Florida.
The
kicks were flying high as KEN HEWSKI (AFC Kickboxing, Middle
Island NY) met JASON ARRUDA (TNT Kickboxing, New Bedford
MA) in a five round bout for the recently vacated USKBA Amateur
Light Heavyweight World
Championship Title, the ISKA Amateur US Championship Title and
the WPKA Pro/Am World Championship Title. In one of the tougher
bouts to score, Arruda came out as if it was a one round fight. His aggressiveness
and effectiveness saw all three judges giving him the first round. The
momentum kept swinging back and forth during the next four rounds. At the
end of five rounds, the judges scored this close fight 48-47, 48-47 and
48-47 all in favor of Arruda. Jason Arruda (see
photo at right) becomes the first kickboxer to win the
USKBA,
ISKA
and WPKA titles on
the same event. Promoter Tommy "Bee" Bottone is the first person
to arrange the unification of the titles.
Well known ring veteran MIKE "Fighting Irish" RYAN scored a unanimous
five round decision over a game STEVE MARCANTONIO. Marcantonio slipped
Ryan's trademark spinning backfist through the first two rounds, but got
tagged by it in the third round. Although Marcantonio was given a standing
eight count, he survived the round. All judges scored the fight 50-44 in
favor of Ryan. In another pro bout, two kickboxing champions met each other
in what some of the spectators labeled "the best full contact kickboxing
bout" they have seen. TOMMY "The Warrior" RODRIGUEZ and KEITH
"The Hammer" NESBITT fought a four round war. The deciding moment came
in the third round when Rodriguez felled Nesbitt. Nesbitt
was given a standing eight count, but weathered the storm. At the end of
four rounds, the judges scored it 39-36, 39-36 and 38-37 in favor of Rodriguez.
In a pro Leg Kick Rules bout, KEITH "Youngblood" YOUNGS defeated
ROBERT
BURLEY by TKO at 1:18 of Round 1. In a bout for the USKBA Amateur
Female Featherweight Tri-State Championship Title, CHRISSY YANDOLLI
(see
photo at left...l to r: Tommy "Bee" Bottone, Chrissy Yandolli and Tony
"TNT" Ventura) was awarded the title by USKBA Champion
TONY "TNT" VENTURA when her opponent canceled before the fight. Yandolli,
who trained hard for the title bout, fought an exhibition with VICKIE
HOLLOBAUGH.
In other kickboxing action:
PETER ANASTASIO def ALEX ALONSO by TKO at :59 of Round 2.
CHRIS ALGIERI def KYLE MURRAY by unanimous decision.
SANDON NACHMANN def CARLOS SANTIAGO by TKO at 2:00 of Round
1.
GEOFFREY COMAN def DIMA SHIRGANOV by unanimous decision.
ERNIE REINKE and ALEX MOSTOVOY fought an exhibition.
SCOTT MARCHASIN and MICHAEL COLON fougth an exhibition.
ADAM CZACHOR def ALBERT POPE by unanimous decision.
GERMAN DOGAYMAN and VLADIMIR STRELNIKOV fought an exhibition.
JOSE BATRIS def STEVEN CASTELLI by split decision.
ARTHUR ROZENTSVIT and BEN ASHUROV fought an exhibition.
LEANNA SERRAS and NICOLE KUNTZ fought an exhibition.
The
scheduled bout between USKBA Amateur International Champion TONY SEVOIAN
and LENNOX CHANCE for Sevoian's title did not go on due to an illness
to Sevoian. Chance fought an exhibition against HECTOR FEREIRRA
of Chile. After the bout, Fereirra awarded a special Statue of Appreciation
on behalf
of himself and Jonas Nunez Jr and the PKF to promoter Tommy
"Bee" Bottone (see photo at
left...l to r: Jonas Nunez Jr, Hector Fereirra, Lennox Chance and Tommy
"Bee" Bottone). The referees for the event were; Donnie
Carolei, Fred Coritone and Pat Sullivan. The Judges were Joe
Lamonica, David Ross, Ellwyn Roberts and Luigi Olcese. The lovely
ladies of RoundCardGirlz.com(see
photo at right...l to r: Yalena, Jennifer and Grace)
completed the entertainment for the event. For information on future Ring

"NOVOYE
RUSSKOYE SLOVO CUP" EVENT SCORES BIG KNOCKOUT WITH EVERYONE
The mega sportfighting event entitled "Novoye Russkoye Slovo-International
Fight Night 2" held on May 31, 2001 at the Atlantic Oceana Restaurant
in Brooklyn NY scored a unanimous favorable decision with fight fans, fighters,
sponsors and major invited guests. Special guests such as eYada.com
CEO and former UFC head person Robert Meyrowitz and UFC Champion
and movie star Oleg "The Russian Bear" Taktarov (see
photo at left) joined other special guests Ayat Iliakhunov
(promoter in Kazakhstan and Texas), Robin Postell (photo journalist
and writer for Black Belt Magazine), Yuri Vaulin (professional boxer
and sportfighter) and Eddie Goldman (eYada.com
talk show host).
A
collaboration between USKBA Executive Director and Promoter Gene Fabrikant(see
photo at right...l to r...Mr. Fabrikant and USKBA Head Official Donnie
Carolei) and
Novoye Russkoye Slovo President / Publisher
/ Editor in Chief Valery Weinberg (see
photo at left...l to r...Vladimir Borodine, Moti Horenstein, Jeff Ford,
Valery Weinberg and Oleg Taktarov) brought this major
sportfighting event to Brighton Beach (Brooklyn NY).
The Atlantic Oceana Restaurant was packed with fans who came to
see the action. The efforts of Mr. Weinberg, and his Russian language newspaper,
culminated in filling the venue with over 1,500 enthusiastic fans. The
efforts of Mr. Fabrikant,
and his staff, brought the action packed tremendous bouts to the fans.

were cheering more for the fighters or the girls. In any event, the fans
were not bored.

DECISION ON TAGEHZADEH /
MRINSKY BOUT ON "NOVOYE RUSSKOYE SLOVO CUP" EVENT TO BE REVIEWED
The decision on the YOUSEF TAGEHZADEH vs VLADIMIR MRINSKY bout
is up for review by USKBA Officials. "The USKBA Rules and Regulations
set forth the standards of conduct to be utilized in every bout. We want
to be certain that the rules were adhered to. At
this point, there exists confusion". These were the word uttered by
USKBA President Paul Rosner after watching the Tagehzadeh / Mrinsky bout
and talking to referee Fred Fitzgerald. The final determination will be
posted as soon as it becomes available.
In the third round of their bout, Tagehzadeh, in control of the bout,
hurt Mrinsky and Mrinsky was going down. Tagehzadeh threw a kick at the
bell to end the round. What transpired at that point is unclear. Mrinsky
was administered to by his corner people and the doctor took a look at him.
In the meantime, Tagehzadeh was told to remain in the neutral corner by
referee Fred Fitzgerald. After some time, Fitzgerald called a continuation
of the bout and the beginning of the fourth round. Tagehzadeh had not been
administered to by his corner. Tagehzadeh fought the fourth round with
continued determination. Mrinsky attempted a comeback. At 1:52 into the
round, Tagehzadeh kicked Mrinsky in the stomach. Mrinsky went down and
did not get up. In any event, Tagehzadeh proved himself to be one of the
top fighters in his weight division. Mrinsky has fought many champions,
but was unable to mount any kind of an attack on Tagehzadeh.
This bout was part of the spectacular "NOVOYE RUSSKOYE SLOVO CUP"
event, organized by Mr. Gene Fabrikant, that took place May 31,
2001 at the Atlantic Oceana Restaurant in Brooklyn NY. When the
final decision on the bout is determined, we will post it here first. |

WOW!
"NOVOYE RUSSKOYE SLOVO CUP" SPORTFIGHTING EVENT AMAZES SRO CROWD AS FORD
DECISIONS HORENSTEIN FOR WORLD TITLE
"This fight was a fight that was worthy of the largest arena"...these
were the words of former UFC owner and CEO of eYada.com, Robert Meyrowitz
after seeing the bout between MOTI "The Hammer" HORENSTEIN and JEFF
"Big Diesel" FORD for the vacant USKBA Leg Kick Super Heavyweight
World Championship Title.
The Main Event between Horenstein and Ford thrilled the audience with
non-stop action from two heavy hitters and kickers. The first round, normally
a 'feeling out' round, saw both fighters throwing bombs. Two judges gave
the round to Ford and one judge gave the round to Horenstein. The second
round belonged to Ford as all three judges saw it in his favor. In the
third round, Ford dropped Horenstein with a leg kick. All three judges
scored the round 10-8 in favor
of Ford. The fourth round again went to Ford with two judges giving the
round to Ford and one judge giving the round to Horenstein. The fifth and
final round saw Horenstein giving it all he had left. Two judges gave the
round to Horenstein and one judge gave the round to Ford. After five action
packed rounds, the judges scored the fight 48-46, 46-48 and 49-45 in favor
of Ford. Ford was awarded the "Novoye Russkoye Slovo Cup" by the
President/Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of the world's foremost Russian
newspaper Novoye Russkoye Slovo, Mr. Valery Weinberg and presented
with the USKBA Leg Kick Super Heavyweight Championship belt by UFC
Champion and Movie Star Oleg "The Russian Bear" Taktarov (see
top photo at left...l to r; Vladimir Borodine, Moti Horenstein, Jeff Ford,
Valery Weinberg and Oleg Taktarov).
In
another championship bout for the vacant USKBA Leg Kick Super Lightweight
International Title, DJAMEL YACOUBEN (France) squared
off against VITALY MANEHOV (Russia). Yacouben was ranked
#1 in France and #2 in Europe. Manehov took the fight after Yacouben's
original opponent canceled. Manehov was ready and attempted to be the aggressor.
Yacouben's experience and technique proved too much for Manehov as Manehov's
trainer, Vladimir Borodine, threw in the towel to end the fight. The winner,
by TKO at 1:23 of the fourth round........Yacouben.

YOUSEF TAGEHZADEH def VLADIMIR MRINSKY by TKO at 1:52 of the
fourth round.
