LUCAS WINS USKBA NORTH AMERICAN TITLE
IN 55 SECONDS
An
impressive DAN "THE LIZARD" LUCAS (see
photo at left...l to r, Tom Bottone, Dan Lucas and Dave Mack)
scored a knockout of his opponent STEPHEN MARCANTONIO at 55 seconds
into the first round as The Main Event of "RUMBLE IN ROCHESTER 2".
Marcantonio came out fighting. Lucas, fighting in front of a huge crowd
of fans, saw an opening and took advantage of it. When Marcantonio threw
his third
spinning kick, Lucas countered with a powerful right to Marcantonio's jaw
that sent Marcantonio to the canvas. Marcantonio remained on the canvas
for a few minutes. By that time, referee Pat Sullivan had counted out Marcantonio
and called for the ringside physician. Marcantonio, who has fought high
level fighters such as Larry "Thunderfoot" Cureton, later said of
Lucas..."he hits hard!" For his effort, Lucas earned the USKBA
Full Contact Heavyweight North American Championship Title.
On
September 9, 2000, USKBA Promoters Mountain Storm Kickboxing held
"RUMBLE
IN ROCHESTER 2" at the new ESL Sports Centre in Rochester NY (see
photo at right...setting up the ring). Among the many
Martial Art Grandmasters and Masters and V.I.P.'s at the event was special
guest KEVIN ROSIER,
UFC fighter and Champion Kickboxer. Mr.
Rosier did a superb job as the guest referee for the first half of the
event. Also in the audience was the vivacious and adorable WANDA NEAL,
on-air reporter for WROC-TV, the CBS affiliate in Rochester NY. Ms. Neal
did a live remote from Lucas' gym as he trained for the fight.
The
undercard featured 3 additional USKBA title bouts, amateur kickboxing bouts
and a kendo demonstration. In the Feature Bout, FRANK "THE BOGEYMAN"
D'AMBRA fought CHINO BERRIOS in a four round bout for the USKBA
Super Light Heavyweight N.Y.S. Championship Title. In the first round,
Berrios scored
two standing eight counts over D'Ambra. The second round saw all three
judges scoring the round for Berrios. All the judges gave the third and
fourth rounds to D'Ambra. As a result of the standing eight counts in the
first round, Berrios was given the judge's nod and awarded the title (see
photo at left). In the two amateur championship title
bouts, BOB KWANDRANS defeated TERRACE WALKER by unanimous
decision to win the USKBA Amateur Super Middleweight N.Y.S. Championship
Title (see photo at right) and
LAURIE
RUELL and STEPHANIE GRIER fought to a draw (see
photo at left) in a contest for the USKBA Amateur
Female Heavyweight N.Y.S. Championship Title.

RAWLINGS CAPTURES USKBA MUAY THAI WELTERWEIGHT
WORLD TITLE
It
took DAN "TANIS" RAWLINGS(see
photo at left) one minute and sixteen seconds to defeat
DAVID
"THUNDER" CUMMINGS and win the USKBA Muay Thai Welterweight
World Championship Title at "ROUGH STUFF REVISITED" at Womacks
Events Center in Cripple Creek, Colorado. Rawlings came into the fight
as the IKBO Muay Thai Champion, a title he had won by defeating Cummings
when they last met. This time, Cummings wanted to take back his title and
add the USKBA
title to his collection. However, Rawlings had his own agenda. From the
opening bell, both fighters went on the offense causing both fighters to
fall on the canvas. When referee VLADIMIR BORODINE brought the fighters
to their feet. Rawlings
backed Cummings into a corner. When Cummings bent down to throw uppercuts,
Rawlings grabbed Cummings behind the head and threw a knee to Cummings'
forehead. Cummings went down and could not recover. Borodine started his
count, then waved the fight over. This pro action took place as The Main
Event of a card that featured amateur Muay Thai and International Rules
Kickboxing.
Cummings (98-18) congratulated Rawlings, raised Rawlings' hand and walked
him around the ring to the accolades from the fans. Cummings said of the
fight "I got caught" and "I'll look forward to fighting him again."
Rawlings, with a combined amateur-pro record of 22-3, is undefeated as
a pro and is turning out to be one of the best Muay Thai fighters in his
weight division (142 lbs). He is looking forward to defending his newly
acquired USKBA title. Rawlings trained for this fight at the BFS (Boxe
Francaise Sports) facility, under world renowned trainer ALI REZGUI,
in Colorado Spings CO.
This
event marked the first show of its kind at the new Womacks Events Center
in Cripple Creek, Colorado. MR. LARRY LAWSON, of Womacks Casino,
coordinated all efforts to make this event a success and treated all fighters
and event personnel to a supreme dinner after the show. Cripple Creek,
where gambling is legal, is located high in the mountains outside of Colorado
Springs. Working with the USKBA in Colorado was MR. JOE CANNON.
Mr. Cannon made sure that the USKBA Representatives, visiting from the
East, were treated well. In attendance was MR. JOSEF MASON, Director
of the State of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies. Additional
