FIRST USKBA SANCTIONED BUFFALO NY KICKBOXING EVENT YIELDS FIRST SUCCESS

USKBA Promoters Kevin & Tina Rosier, of Max Sports Entertainment and Promotions, held their first kickboxing event at The Knights of Columbus in Buffalo NY on June 4th. The event proved a success with the fighters and spectators enjoying the days bouts. The enthusiastic fans cheered for all the fighters, not just the ones they had come to see. The fighters came from all over New York and Canada. Tina Rosier put together the matches that proved to be fair and competitive. Kevin Rosier (see photo at right) was the M.C. for the show.

The Main Event featured the amateur debut of Kevin's brother, Joel Rosier. Rosier was making his debut against Ruel Tucker from Ontario Canada. At 58 seconds into the first round, Rosier was knocked down and counted out (see photo at left) by referee Angelo Castricone Sr. Determined to try it again, Rosier said he would be back to fight on the next kickboxing card in Buffalo.

In the only controversial bout of the day, Matt Cowles and Billy Centner opened the days' fights with a non-stop action packed bout. After three rounds, Centner was declared the winner. Confusion reigned as a result of the blue corner fighter wearing red gloves and blue headgear and the red corner fighter wearing blue gloves and red headgear. After a review of the scorecards, the decision was made that Cowles had won by split decision. Centner's trainer filed an Official Protest of Decision. After careful review, the USKBA has determined that the confusion of corner colors and glove colors led to scoring that was in doubt and created a situation where a definite determination of decision could not be reached. A record of "no contest" will be issued for the bout until further review, and upon approval, both fighters will be requested to fight on the next "KICKBOXING IN BUFFALO" event scheduled for July 16, 2000. The USKBA will put their vacant USKBA Amateur Full Contact Super Lightweight North American Championship Title on the line for these two fighters who deserve a shot at it. Details are to be worked out between the promoters and the trainers of the two fighters.
